Add Another New Englander to the Ranks!

Hi all!

I'm Kim and brand new to hanging. I just turned 40 and decided that I'd like to start doing some backpacking. I love to camp and hike, but I've never really combined the two.

Sleeping on the ground doesn't hold much appeal these days, so enter hammocks! I'll also be trying to keep things as lightweight as possible due to a cranky knee.

I've started putting together gear and even attempting some DIY. My first order of Dutch bling arrived today, exactly 3 hours after I placed my second order! Being a mild gram-weenie, I decided on a Hummingbird Hammocks Single+ hammock and Pelican tarp.

I look forward to learning as much as I can from this community and contributing with my own experiences as I go.

Welcome from another New Englander.
Looks like your hammock journey is off to a great start having already discovered the world of Dutch. The cottage vendors here are awesome, as is the community itself. You may have read this in other posts, but one of the best ways to learn (see/feel/try) is to attend a local group hang. That, and Shug's videos, and HYOH podcast, and D. Hi! As The Yoda says a group hang is a good idea. The Spring Hang is happening April 28-30 in Ashby, MA which would be a great time to meet folks. Welcome on board and hope to get to meet you.

I have a cranky knee as well. I had knee surgery 6 months ago.

I definitely think those of us who have prior injuries appreciate going as lightweight as possible!

Welcome from Maine! I hear ya on the 40+ cranky body syndrome. I told my wife last summer we needed a stool or something in our tent vestibule so my cranky morning back issue could help by using something to get off the ground with. Then I borrowed a hammock and I was in HEAVEN!!!! I'm going to the Ashby hang with a friend. Can't wait to see everyone's setups and rigging!
