Backyard hang: A rainy night in Georgia

Hanging in my backyard tonight. Thunderstorms expected, and the rumbles have commenced.

Low temperature projected to be 60ish. Low techhang consisting of Youphoria hammock (found while hiking), Atlas Straps, PLUQ, CDT (unmodified) and Yukon Walkabout diamond tarp. Not real crazy about the hammock so far, seems to be an ENO knockoff with very floppy edges, but I'm sure I'll live.

Just relaxing at this point as the intermittent showers patter on my tarp. It's pretty minimal coverage so we'll see if the thunder storms get to me tonight. I may have it pitched too high.

Great minds think alike. I found a little spot this evening as well to watch the rain. Great little park just around the corner with a couple of pavilions. The dog played in the rain and I assisted in his fun while suspended in the air.

Was hoping for a thunderstorm, but just got a light rain.
I would rather be in the woods... my dog would rather be in the pool. My wife thinks we are both nuts.

Ha! I did end up having to get up and lower that sucker, I was getting a little spatter.

Overall it was a good night. It started raining pretty heavily around 1030 for a little while with some pretty big flashes and booms. I'm glad there wasn't much wind to go along with it, I probably would have had to lower the tarp down pretty low (like almost on top of me low) to stay dry.

Slept pretty well after the thunder subsuded, with the rain pitter-pattering all night. Very enjoyable. I don't think I'd want to try that PLUQ much below 60*, seemed like it was right on the edge of being enough insulation underneath, but I was toasty warm on top with my CDT so that was nice.

This hang completed my "12 Month Challenge" so I managed to hang outside at least one night for 12 consecutive months, in varying conditions. Coldest night, 21*, and tackling a thunderstorm with my Yukon postage stamp are two that stand out to me even though they were both in my back yard. Absolutely loved the ones I spent while out in the wilds as well. It's been fun!!

Congrats on completing the challenge! I agree that folks need to sleep outside more, even if it's only in their back yard. And there's nothing like a good thunderstorm with nothing between you and it except a few ounces of fabric to get the adrenaline flowing!

Looked pretty dry there! I have been itching to try my gear out in the rain. Without a way to set up in the backyard, I haven't had the opportunity since I got into hanging.

I was going to do the same tonight but when the hail and lightning show started I'm glad I chose otherwise. No reason to take a risk hanging on lightning rods
