Tree straps, why clip when you can tie?

So yes I'm new to hammock camping but a seasoned old salt when it come to knots and webbing.

So I see many hangers use a carabiner to loop their tree strap around the tree. Why not just tie a double figure 8 or figure 8 on a bite? Then you just put your bitter end through the loops you tied and then use your toggles like normal. It seems like it would allow you to eliminate 2 carabiner from your load.
The only reason I can see using the carabiners is to speed up the setup and breakdown process. A I missing something?

Nope not missing a thing, it just much easier to clip and go.

I originally did it that way, pass the free end through the fixed loop of the other end. Seemed the obvious way to do it. The first time I wanted to readjust after handing the hammock and quilts though I realised the advantage of being able to unclip rather than having to pass the end through. I couldn't get enough free slack so it was either dump everything on the ground or waste time tying everything up at one end at a time or putting everything away then set up again.

Decided then that the weight of a couple of Camp Nano 23 carabiners was acceptable for the few times I'd need them. I've since moved to Dutch clips for even less weight than one carabiner. Certainly not necessary, just a convenience thing IMO.

The carabiner solution is more useful for strap+buckle suspensions than for whoopie+toggle suspensions.

If I'm just using tree straps to facilitate a whoopie sling attachment, i just use a sewn-loop on the tree strap. Carabiners and clips have not much use in this situation.

However, with a full length strap+buckle suspension, not having carabiners means that you have to take the webbing out of the buckle, go around the tree, and then feed back through the buckle. Ugh. With a carabiner, you just clip and go. Yay!

Tree strap, looped on one end and spiders. Painless adjustments with whoopie slings.

Whatever works for you is fine for you but, try to take my Dutch clips and I will make a fuss. You won't like me when I am fussy.

Exactly, why do either when you can do neither?!?

I like the carabiner cause it is simple, fast, and I can hang my pack off it also. But its kinda a tossup between a biner (multi use)and a dutchclip (lighter)

Used to just pass one end through the hoop and thought a Dutch clip was unnecessary...until I tried a pair, ONCE. Ruined the simplicity of just passing the end through the loop for me forever. Now I can't stand fooling with a tree strap that doesn't have a Dutch clip--what a nuisance! I love those Dutch clips. Slowly buying up sets for every hammock I have. Got two covered. Just ordered a third pair tonight! They just make life so much easier! (I know, Im spoiled!)
