I'm not sure "sock" and views can be used in the same sentence. Why a sock at all if you are looking for views?
Because you install it, then go to bed, watch the sunset, then close it and sleep

I used the WB XLC this winter, and I was glad I had the top cover. It blocked some wind and increased a little bit the temperature. It was nice. But you're right, I should dare sleeping under the stars, I will try it, next winter, if I get the chance.Originally Posted by TrailSlug
I have a double door Spindrift I use a lot. I have a nice view when it is unzipped, privacy when it is zipped. We have a lot of heavy mist and general dampness, my sock keeps that light moisture off my hammock, the large openings keep the air circulating and my claustrophobia at bay.
I am not sure which vendors are currently selling socks, or what type of view you might have. I believe DIY Kits are available, so you could make your own design.
I have been playing with doing a double door for my auxiliary GE.
I've been contemplating putting a zipper in my Dutch winter sock for quite a while, I might have to give it a try one of these days;<) I think a sock with a double door would be great. I do most of my camping on the coast and have to deal with high winds and fog pretty often, the sock works for that extremely well.
By all means, let's argue about whether or not a hammock will hurt a tree. All the while ignoring the fact that there is an island of garbage the size of Texas floating in the Pacific ocean. Or how about the fact that over 75% of the world's nuclear reactors are leaking...

And why would I even want to?
I enjoy a sunset as much as anybody. But I want to enjoy it fully. Not through a portal view.
I also cherish the experience of watching the sun set, and then the experience of the diminishing light, magically bringing into play the changing of my environment into darkness.
The sounds of the woods gradually changing from day to nocturnal. My eyes adjusting to the darkness, allowing the stars to be seen. Watching the moon rise, and cast its magical glow, bathing my surroundings into a perspective that is like looking at the same painting through another pair of eyes. And then there is the mesmerizing aspect of watching even the smallest of campfires.
In bed by sunset? Sorry, I have no experience to assist you with.
I know it's not the lightest gear, and it's a lot of stuff, but I use a canoe, so it's a lot like car camping, but without the other cars.
I use socks all the time when I'm camping - and for the reasons you mentioned. Weather changes; wind direction changes. The sock makes things less critical.
If I'm using a gathered end hammock, I can decide on the door side when I set it up. For a "head at this end only" hammock, like my Ridge Runner, I had Warbonnet put a zipper on each side of the bridge sock. Works great.
You should try it.
