I recommend using 4x6's or 6x6's. I tried using 4x4's and they broke. Now I use hammock trees ( pier pilings. )

I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
I've hung from 4x4's for years (6'3" - up to 285 lbs) without issue. Exactly how many have had this problem? is it just an urban legend that people keep repeating?

Too late! lol. I'm not digging up a 4x4 set 36" in the ground and a giant lump of concrete it's stuck into to avoid falling from about foot in the air. At first had a metal clothes line post that rotted out at the bottom, I fell to the ground and the post fell and hit me on the head. It must have looked like a scene from the Three Stooges!

"I wonder if anyone else has an ear so tuned and sharpened as I have, to detect the music, not of the spheres, but of earth, subtleties of major and minor chord that the wind strikes upon the tree branches. Have you ever heard the earth breathe... ?"
