This one but the point is that anything small works fine for tarps and guylines. (Although mason line is too small for guylines and it doesn't take knots well).

Since I'm here on the water I get a lot of my shock cord from West Marine. They have lots of different sizes plus lots of Nite ize stuff like biners and lights. They also carry marine grade rope which is thicker than what we use normally but strong and great outdoors non the less. As mentioned above, braided masons line can be used for lots of stuff too as well as Tared #36 bank line, most Walmarts carry both. But for Amsteel and other hammock specific cordage I go with Dutch, I can have it that day if I drive the 30 mins to his shop in PA from my place in MD.

I would disagree with the "anything small" claim. Some types of cordage stretch too much, especially in the rain which is exactly the time you don't want your tarp lines to stretch.

If you get mason line, look for braided line rather than twisted. Much easier to deal with.

Short answer, No, box stores don't have good options. Will some work, maybe. Save yourself some aggravation and check out the cottage vendors on this site. They have what works best.

1/8 inch braided nylon rope works just fine. Functional, not de rigueur. Less than $4 at the box stores. Some cheaper at WMT.

West Marine typically carries Zingit and Lashit as well as 7/64"+ amsteel...not sure if there's one close enough to you to be worthwhile though.
