Do box stores carry good ropes and cordage for tarp ridge-line and tie-outs?

Walmart, Lowes, Home-Depot, etc.
I'm not 100% sure type of cord I need, I just know it shouldn't be stretchy.

Any links would be helpful.

You'd be better served ordering it from dutchwaregear.com, or ripstopbytheroll.

You'll want amsteel, zing it, or lash it.

The best thing I've seen in the box stores is paracord. Way too stretchy.

Mason line can be used for tie outs if you must get it locally, but it's weaker and tangles. Zing-it or something like the Lawson cord is best.

p.s. If you need a lot of good, strong cordage at a price, Mastrant P is an option. DX Engineering has 300' of the 2mm for $15.95. But after shipping you're looking at $28.90 total.

Still, that's pretty cheap! Nice stuff. In comparison, that same price will get you 180' of Zing-it instead of 300'. But I always prefer Zing-it.

That said, i'm still using $1.40 Walmart 40' white nylon cord for my tarp lines and it works just fine. It takes a Truckie Hitch better than the slippery stuff.

You only need better quality cord if you are hanging the actual hammock or want to fancy yourself as an ultralighter.

Which one exactly do you use?

For ridgelines I have had good luck at seeing zing-it at lawn mower supply shops around town. If you ask for throw line for tree trimming they would lead you to zing-it usually.

For tarp lines I have bought 3mm reflective cord at REI and have seen it at a few high end camping stores.

I think you'd be in decent shape if you were shopping locally and found a 50 ft thing of Nite Ize reflective cord. Aside from that, I'm not too sure.
