    REI Quarter Dome Air Hammock?

I believe we all just got our dividends from REI today if anyone shops there, and I was browsing around online and came across this... a Bridge Hammock from REI? Am I seeing this right?

I had saw that it was coming, but didn't realize it was available yet. I think their goal is more to compete with ENO in the introductory/casual market.

That bugnet entry just looks frustrating from the picture. It will be interesting to see how they compete against the ENO's of the world with it though.

Nature Calls Backpacking did an overview of it. I will admit, it actually looks better than I had anticipated. Just to note though, I'm not real familiar with the other current bridge hammocks that are available.

Well, how about that? I would agree with you that it does look quite a bit better in the video. From my own experience with a bridge hammock though, I would imagine that tarp is going to prove quite insufficient in anything but a light rain. I'm curious what the dimensions of the hammock, spreader bars, and tarp are. The website was not very helpful in that area.

Doesn't look like they've addressed insulation at all unless I'm missing something.

The "floor dimensions" of 81" x 23" suggest to me that the intent is for campers to throw a sleeping pad in there, just as they would any other tent. But yeah-- it's only implied. They don't directly make any comments about the need for insulation, which could be considered an oversight.

For myself, I feel like I'd like that tent floor to be just a couple inches wider to accommodate a larger selection of sleeping pads. But yeah-- looks better in the video above than I had expected.

The tarp seems to leave a little bit to be desired. But for the price, I would consider this as a 2nd bridge, and throw one of my bigger tarps over it.

Tarp looks bad for the size hammock. Don't like the bug net design either...the opening looks awkward and the way the door opens and you sit on it, just looks like you'll damage it. They also ruined the best parts of the bridge with those high walls. Looks like it'll be difficult to pee off the side lol and no views. Lastly those walls look like they'll cause shoulder squeeze.

Agree with Bic on a lot of those issues, and the tarp does look a little small. I think this looks like a great option for a young scout, or really any noob wanting a complete package to start hanging. Especially if its available at 20% off.

While the video is very good, where is the insulation? I don't want to take that for granted, I'd like to see what its like with a pad in it, or how well a std UQ connects. Probably not much of an issue, though.
