I've seen posted around here that the proper way to get a 10 degree quilt is to order the 2 extra ounces (if ordering a 20 degree) and ask them to make it a 10 degree. HG says that they redesign the baffles to make it a true 10 degree quilt. That was if you were ordering a non Econ quilt. Same thing though you just don't need the custom work order to make it a 10 degree. Hope that makes sense.

figured I'd come back and update my question above with a direct response from HG. this is an email I received this morning --
Good morning,
We use the exact same construction techniques on our Econ quilts as we do with our Standard models. The dense fill is likely due to the lower fill power down (800 vs 850) and the additional amount we put in there to compensate for the lower fill power. For a 10 degree quilt we use 3 inch baffles instead of the 2.5 inch baffles on a 20. I hope that helps! We're glad you're liking the product.
Thanks,

My son just received his econ Phoenix 20 degree ordered on 3/31. Amazing quilt at a great price. He can't wait to get it out in the woods!

They put Econ on the tabs. Glad to see they went that route. No one on here would do it, but there's a couple rotten eggs out there that would try to pass it as a normal edition one for resale I bet.
