Dutch sells mule tape, but he missed the boat for dying mule tape. Or did he? Perhaps he's the mysterious yet intrepid entrepreneur 'Dutchburro' behind mulewaregear.com?

Sorry, been home sick all week with too much time on my hands and apparently getting a bit antsy.

Ok, I received a piece of mule tape to test and have dyed it with the Transtint dark walnut dye stain diluted with alcohol. Looks good so far but I'm going to let it dry overnight before I dunk it in water to see if it stays colored. Here's the color after dipping and wiping with a paper towel and letting dry.

On a side note, this stuff is only 1/2" wide but has 1000# rating. Pretty cool stuff I say!!

I am going to unfortunately call the transtint dye stain a fail as it mostly comes out when rinsed in water. I'll look into other non stinky or quick drying stains. The obit good thing is there is NO odor after about half an hour.

There was a thread last year about dyeing kevlar. I think that's where the sharpie came up. Sharpies use ink and as I recall, I had looked up and posted links of articles and sources of ink. Might want to search for that thread.

    EDIT - Found it https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...=1#post1614914

Be aware that there are different types of inks. I wonder if some inks/dyes may have long term effects on mule tape integrity. Do let us know if you crash!
