    Birmingham, Alabama

Going to watch my daughter in the NCAA indoor track championships in Birmingham, Al, I have some extra time since I have retired. Taking my fat bike and looking for a place to bikepack for a few days. Any idea's would be helpful. coming from Western NY stopping in Louisville, KY at my cousins then on to Nashville at a friends place but on my way home I am open to anything.

I'm not sure about the bike but if you are staying in Birmingham you should check out the Pinhoti trial or the Sipsey wilderness both are within an hour of B' Ham.

If you are wanting more of a campground there is oak mountain in Pelham which is about 30 mins south of Birmingham. then there is cheaha state park which is 1h 13mins east of Birmingham

    Good luck to your daughter

On your way back North I-65 in KY is Mammoth Cave National Park (several campgrounds available). If your planning going back I-75 there is the Big South Fork in TN and KY or Cumberland Gap National Park or Cumberland Falls State Park in Ky.

Check out the Cheaha Express over on Mt. Cheaha. Some great cycling over there, both on and off road. Also plenty of camping; campsite, primitive, and backcountry.

These guys can probably help. Pretty good hiking and camping at Oak Mtn. Cheaha has great views, but you cant bike on the Pinhoti there.

There are a number of cycle friendly trails and roads at Cheaha.
