If you drive or ride, get your wheels turning, pack up and go. At least that is what I done for most of my life. As a female be cautious but get moving.
Most of us started with odd equipment. I accidently found a ENO double really inexpensive, I think the price was wholesale.
I used a sheep skin under me a sleeping bag for the top. I was quickly hooked on Hanging. My daughter was slower to adopt hammocks. Now we both Hang exclusively.
I had a few fights with a pad, gave it up for a 1970's military poncho liner. I cut the zipper off a down sleepingbag for a top quilt. Gradually I aquired different gear.
Really learning and collecting is part of the fun.
