Ya know it sure makes rigging a hammock on the ground, in the cold, wind and rain ... look like child's play as to doing it forty feet off the ground!

Oh yeah! Used to do alot of tree climbing not too long ago. Used to build rope courses around the country. One zipline we made at a boy scout camp, we tested the finished zip by attaching a hammock (using a branch to keep the hammock ends apart) and hammockzipped down! That was fun but unfortunately, I have no pictures!
If I was still building ropes courses out in California, Id put up an hammock on one of those huge ponderosa pines 80' up there where we worked! That'll be a record!
If I knew how to do that type of rigging, I would love to do it. Seems like it would be beneficial in brown bear country.
Geez! Not for me... although when I was 21 years old (and not as smart as now) I mantled onto the 6" cap on top of a topmast that was 93' off the deck of a topsail schooner. The next season, those caps were taken off and lots of rot was repaired!

Um...bears are pretty good climbers.
Sign me up for the tree climbing, though...I'd hammock up there. I bet it's just the same as hammocking a few inches off the ground after you close your eyes...except for the constant swaying, the increased windspeed, hearing the birds chirp under you...

IMPOSSIBLE JUST TAKES LONGER
I thought black bears and young brown bears could climb trees, but adult brown bears couldn't.
Yeah, after seeing that page, I think I want to learn. Now just to find someone to teach me. That could be difficult.
How to tell a Black Bear from a Grizzly?
The Black Bear will chase you up the tree.
The Grizzly will just knock the tree down.
Trust nobody!
