    Question about Straps and tarps

So, I have atlas straps that I hang with. I find it difficult sometimes to effectively rig a tarp as I usually put the ridgeline above the straps on the trees. This usually makes the tarp hang quite high and look dumb. I can't find any tutorials on hanging ridgelines when using straps and I would love some feedback from you guys. I have a super basic lightweight square tarp that's like a 10x11 or something like that if it helps diagnose.

And second question, I got a Hennessy Expedition Asym Zip for Christmas. Only problem is the weight limit is 250. Does anyone know how much over that you can risk going? Cuz while I've been working on shedding some weight, it's still a good 20 lbs away. Really want to get out and use it. I also don't want to break it.

    Thx guys!

The RL on your tarp should usually attach to the tree a little below the tree straps. But there is no set hard rule on this. Depending on weather conditions.....If moisture is actually coming down and if the wind is blowing or not...will help to determine how close to the hammock you want the tarp. Nice weather where you want to have shade you can pitch the tarp high, wind blow rain bring it down close to the hammock. Thats part of the good thing about hammocks, you can customize your shelter set up day to day to suite your needs.

A lot of people rig the tarp up with a "V" configuration going around the tree, straddling the strap in between. This way the tarp lines and hammock suspension don't rub when the tarp is tied below the tree straps.

    This will solve your problem!
Your tarp line should go from the tarp, around the tree, and back to you tarp. This leaves the hammock strap between the going & coming tarp line.

What Paul said - the tarp is almost always below the hammock straps at the tree. The Ultimate Hang shows various ways to attach the tarp. It's possible to create a "V" at the tree for going around your hammock straps, but the interference doesn't bother me.

This is cool except it doesn't work on one side when using a continuous ridgeline right?

Sure it does. That's exactly my setup. The tarp line begins at one end of the tarp Ridgeline, goes around the first tree back to that tarp Ridgeline Point, through a ring there, across the tarp Ridgeline to the ring on the other side, around the second tree, and back to that second end of the Ridgeline. That way there's a V on both ends with a hammock strap going through each V.

So I have Dutch's CRL with TATO tarp connectors. The line itself has a small Dutch hook on one side which connects to itself around the tree. The other makes a loop around the other tree and connects to a wasp.

I usually set up the CRL first, then attach the tarp. Am I doing this wrong? I want a "V" at both ends too!!

Get another wasp or fly. Or take your hook and knot it to the line in the middle and come back around the tree with a looped end back to the hook
