    Big Sur Recommendations

I am going hammock backpacking/camping in the Big Sur area for 4-5 days with my girlfriend. Which areas do you recommend? We prefer backcountry camping, and having the option of setting up camp not too far from the car and going on day trips from there. Thanks!

When are you going? A lot of Big Sur is sadly closed for business right now following devastating winter storms. Some of the main access, including a major bridge on the Highway 1 are badly damaged.

That said, there is an amazing hike to a hot spring in the back country, surrounded by redwoods. My personal favorite trek I've ever done in the area. But you can't go wrong. It's unbelievable anywhere you go.

I would recommend a call or log on to Cal Trans to check conditions well in advance as PCH is known for long road closures and repairs. Many of the times there is a slow down that makes it really tough to be patient enough to travel the road, especially in wet years like we've had. Your destination might be clear but getting there might be restricted.

The trail along Salmon Creek was a fun time and at the time it was hammock friendly. It's been 3 years and rules change to, so you might want to check the local rules before heading out. It's kind of a pain to go through all the pre trip prep but if it averts a bummer of a time it might work in your favor.
Happy Trails to one and all.
Enjoy the outdoors wisely and elevate your perspective.
