I am 5ft. 2ins. I seem to be the odd person out. I like the shorter hammocks, they are significantly easier to exit. My T. Bird was a great lay, however a major struggle to exit. I finally figured out narrower and 9 or 10 feet worked the best for me. I also learned I need a lefty.
I now have a RR my back up is a cat cut Simply Light.

I'm 5'10" and have no trouble being comfortable in a 10' (actually 3m so 9.8') but I am a little shorter in the leg, a 30" inseam on jeans and could get away with a 28" sometimes. Not sure if that makes a difference. Sure I also have no problem in an 11'+ but it's all extra weight to carry on the trail.

I do have some wide Hexon 1.6 fabric inbound from Dutch I thought I'd try out a wide 9' for lounging at home where I have a short span to hang in and not concerned with weight.

At what point is it to long? Is 12 overkill?

I guess I am the odd one out. I keep trying with my 11 foot hammock, but I really don't notice any difference in comfort. I am 5'11". I also am beginning to suspect my underquilts don't fit the same as with the 10 footers. I had some cold weather yesterday, and hung in the backyard. It was 28 degrees, and my 20 degree Incubator was cool all over. I switched to my Phoenix and noticed the same thing. I have had both quilts down to the high teens before, so I am not sure what the problem is. The only variable is now I am on an 11 footer. I tried adding a loop of shock cord to my underquilt to lengthen the suspension a bit, but not sure it helped. Experiments continue, lol.
Homer: Sir, I need to know where I can get some business hammocks.

Hank Scorpio: Hammocks? My goodness, what an idea. Why didn't I think of that? Hammocks!

I'm 5' 10" and my primary summer hammock (SLD trail lair) and winter hammock (SLD streamliner) are 10 footers. I'm comfortable with the length and the give me plenty of room under my 11 and 12 foot tarps. I do have an 11 foot Dutch netless that is my primary basement lounging hammock. Everyone has different levels of comfort, so there's no right or wrong. Just do what works best for you.

I start with 11 feet of cloth and fold 2" channels (twice) in the ends, so I wind up with a 10'6" hammock. It's plenty long for me.
