Kisatchie NF Louisiana loop hike video

Short two day hike in Kisatchie National Forest. I utilized the Sandstone, Backbone, and Caroline Dormon trails to make a 28 mile clockwise loop.

The Backbone trail is a really fun trail. Sandstone and Caroline Dormon trails are really easy and flat for the most part. Longest distance without crossing a creek was 4 miles.

The Sandstone Trail is a multi use ATV, equestrian, and hiking trail. I was there on Wednesday and Thursday and saw nobody. On the weekends I'm sure there will be some ATvs roaming around.

    Thanks Paul.

Trying to get in better shape so I can see more trails. Although this flat ground 28 miles is like 20 or less in the mountains.

Going to use this hike a few times this year for training. I want to hike 100 miles of the Colorado Trail and only have 9 days to do it.

Very nice, glad you got video of this loop. It's something I've been looking at doing for a while, although I'd do it in 3 days. I like to spend extra time in camp on the backbone. How is the sandstone? Is it full of ATV ruts? That's the only section of concern to me.

Mais, Billy's boudin and cracklins are a great way to balance out the health benefits of hiking. Haha!

The sandstone was in really good shape for atv trail. There were a few mud/water holes but were easy to go around. Overall it is in better shape than the backbone.

I would hike 50 miles for some Billy's boudin.

Oh man, haven't had me some decent cracklins in a while. I'd be interested in your opinion of that InReach sat unit Nodust.

I really like the Inreach. I'll put my phone in airplane mode when I leave the truck and that's my communication. One text a day to the Mrs to let her know I'm alive. Phone will last days on a charge.

I load routes from Caltopo normally. I could put the Inreach in a pocket because I never look at it. Just Bluetooth with phone.

Those back-to-back 10+ mile days will wear on you for sure! It's therapeutic though, getting out there and walking in the wilds. Nice TR!

    Thanks John.

Wish I had stamina for more miles. That way I could see more trail.
