At 6'2" I should have an 11' hammock but have been fairly comfortable in my simple Yukon Outfitters 10' V1 or V2 hammock. I found it on Woot for about $25. They go on sale there from time to time. Made in USA down in TN and has worked as my camping hammock for several years now. I had a 10' x 9' piece of Tyvek house wrap that I added a grommet kit to for a tarp( cost was less than $10). I used a sleeping bag and a pad at first for insulation (good to about 35F).
I am just now starting to upgrade my gear as I can afford it. A tarp last year, and under quilt this Winter, hopefully an 11' hammock by Summer's end. Depending upon your build you should go with what will make you comfortable. If your 5'4" and 150lbs a simple ENO or Yukon Outfitters or Twisted Root 10' hammock will be fine to start with. If your 6'+ and over 220lbs I would suggest a lower end cottage company hammock as suggested above.

woot.com is selling the Twisted Root Big Mozzie hammock right now for $30. I have one and I think it is a great starter hammock. It's a 10' diamond ripstop hammock with an integrated bugnet. I have taken it on a enough backpacking trips to know that hammock camping is for me. I did a quick review of it here.

Sorry cottage vendors but he did say he wanted a low priced hammock and we do share info.

You will be happy with it. If you find a need to control the sag I did a ridgeline install on mine that I can photograph for you. But you will probably be happy with it out of the bag.

And if it's not for you you shouldn't have any trouble selling it. I'd snatched it up if I were you!

There's always the option of trying to make a Hammock yourself.

    Check out the DIY forum.

A netless hammock is pretty easy to do if you understand the basics of using a sewing machine (which can suck haha).

I have had very good luck with the ENO line. If you look for them on sale or even on Craigslist, you can get a single or double nest at about $30. You will need suspension which will be about $15-$20. Give this a try and see how you like it. Be careful, it can be addicting! If you have a friend who has a hammock you could use, you will be able to tell if you will like it. Then it might be worth it to invest the extra $'s up front. Good luck!
