But if you decide too...make sure your not hanging on a bear trail. Get well away from fish cleaning spot as that is where the bear will likely go. Like when they come to camp backpacking they usually go for food and food bags.
The bears more than likely approach the cabin from the woods so lakeside may be OK.
    It will be exciting!
Also...you could use a bear alarm like in video below.

I could not find that product on any website by Solo hunter. The website he gives in the video is no longer valid.

I did find it with a little research. Here is the link if any one wants it.

You'll be fine. The fact that you are concerned means you will be diligent and that's all you need. You may even be able to keep your camera with you and get some footage of a life time and a small bell will more than likely be all you need.

Sound grenade is another option at half the price. There is one that costs a little more that has attachment points so that you can secure it to your gear and it will activate if moved. "Sound grenades" don't have lights but are worth the price as personnel protection in the city.

What about if you hang inside the cabin? Screw in some eye bolts and call it a day?

If you take most of the advice presented here you should be fine. I've camped in black bear country all of my life and have never had to deal with them. Luck or reasonably good camp practices. If you're sleeping outside, keep all food odours away from where you sleep and that includes clothes you've been fishing/food prepping in. A slow running friend is also an asset.

Pack in a couple of cans of fresh bear spray and "everything will be fine".

I would suggest that you check out the following video for some excellent information on the subject...

I have done a lot of research on bears and this video is excellent. The information is science. Rational approaches are important and necessary. Dispels a lot of myths.

Like others have said , keep your camp clean, take bear spray and bear bangers. Chances are you won't even see a bear. I live and camp in bear country. I don't consider it dangerous. Have had many many bear encounters. Most of the time they don't stay long enough to get a decent picture. Have fun.

Thanks for all the info. Been thinking about what to do next time I camp alone in bear country.

This photo has done a lot to promote misinformation about bears...
