After many kite bags and stuff sacks, I found that I like to lay the draw cord in position as I fold the material over. Saves a lot of effort insetting it later. Also with it already in I can use it as a guide for feeding the material through under the foot. The cord will rest along the side of the foot making the seam almost a perfect even distance from the edge.

Also I will first fold over 1" of material then fold 1/2 ". This gives me a double layer of material on the edge. I've had too many sacks were the edge is the first place to show wear. I actually fold the folded edge just past the cut edgethen sew through four layers but the cut edge is unexposed.

I totally made up all the names. I couldn't find anything consistent that people were saying about anything except for casings, which is really old-fashioned, which probably explains why it has a name.

I should try that too. Good idea. Especially if we can cut the hole open with something hot. I am not sure if it is even possible to open a buttonhole with a hot knife.

Excellent! Let me know if you decide to try something new.

jellyfish, you're amazing...wish I could sew like that. I have a buddy who is learning how to make hammock stuff so I sent him a link of your tarp project and he really likes it. He is preparing for a tarp build soon.
I just wanted to say thank you for helping other folks learn how to diy.

Instead of pinning the fabric , have you ever used the small quilt clips? The clips seem a little simpler, and I won't keep pinning my finger to the fabric, lol.

I'm glad folks are finding my sewing videos useful.

I have quilt clips and they work really well. My pins are starting to get dull. I should get those out and use them.
