I am not sure. I have read all sorts of information about this. I used 2" baffles with 700 fill down. I put 1 oz in each of the 16 baffles. If I did my math correct I only needed 10.25 oz of down or .64 oz. per baffle so it's over stuffed a little. If anybody has any information to offer up based on that I'd love to hear it. I was hoping for 30 degrees but some places I found suggest that it could be 20-25 degree. I'm very new to this so I'm pretty interested in gaining as much knowledge as I can.

Your dual purpose plan is a good one. My bet is you'll be comfortable at 20° F.

I watched a lot of YouTube The toughest part was really just the tedious time spent stiffing the baffles with down. I ordered my down in one big bag so I had to try and weigh it and move it to the baffles...it was a mess. Next time ill spend a little extra and order it from a company that will pre package multiple bags with the amount I need for each baffle. Good luck and just go for it. I work nights so this was a nice project to do on my off day and it took me about 10 hours between 2 days.

    Thumbs up

So where did you order your down from? I want to make a bag, but haven't had the motivation. Think you just may have given me some!!

Since this was my 1st one I didn't go fancy. I ordered plain 700 fill down from Amazon.com. It isn't heydro treated or anything but it was good down. Like I said, the only issue was it coming in a large bag and having to measure it out before placing it in the TQ.

    Nice work!

I usually use my UQ with some clips to keep me warm when out hunting. A TQ is probably better suited. :-)

Well you just gave me an idea! I think Ill make some suspenders I can connect to it when hunting and it will be a no hands operation and it won't fall down if I have to stand to take a shot.
