Wink Alcohol acetone sharpie and Outdoor fabrics

Hello! I have just finished my first underquilt shell and have made many mistakes during construction. It is quite marked up with sharpie and I think it would look better when finished if I could clean those marks off.

I am wondering if any of you have tried soaking this type of project in rubbing alcohol or acetone to clean it of sharpie marks ? I would hate to destroy it trying to clean it. The underquilt uses argon 67 and mara 70 thread and nano see um mesh from Dutch.

Thank you very much for your comments and advice.

Test on scraps first. My bet is that acetone would readily eat through synthetic fabric. Isopropyl alcohol might be okay in moderation. I wouldn't soak the fabric in any solvent, in fact use solvent as sparingly as possible.

I cleaned Sharpie off Silnylon with a Qtip and alcohol. So so results on light colored fabric. I cleaned up my marks right away.
My gear all went up in flames, so I have no idea what the long term affect of my lame sharpie ink removal was. The ink did not all come away, it juat lightened.

Yes, alcohol cleans Sharpie off most things. I'm getting ready to construct a pack and probably with use black sharpie on the green fabric and silver on the black. Note: nothing takes the silver market off!!!!

Do not use acetone on anything unless utterly necessary, in general. It dissolves plexiglass, so my assumption would be it will destroy our fancy fabrics!!

Maybe try naptha on a pc of scrap. I have no idea what the reaction could be, or if it even works on on sharpie ink.

    Ask Dutch.

Not to derail the thread, but do tell! I hope nobody was injured!

PS - I have used alcohol and a cotton swab on silpoly. It worked, but it was within seconds of making a stray mark. Not sure if it would work or not once the sharpie has dried completely.

Been there, done that. Mistakes happen. I normally use an old piece of soap to make marks, no chance it won't wash away. It works especially well on heavier fabrics with some texture, not as well on taffetas or quilt materials. I recently found some liquid chalk markers in my wife's area that I commandeered and they are working really well. They come in a variety of fluorescent colors so even on Outdoor INK prints with color variation, I can usually find one that stands out. So far they clean up well with a wet rag.

I generally avoid sharpies at this point.

I think these are the chalk markers I stole from my wife:

If you can find Ethanol, it works better vs. sharpies and evaporates faster than Isopropyl (Rubbing) alcohol and is less likely to end up with color rings and stains once dry.
