It seems to work well. Far enough from my head that it doesn't interfere with the lay or compress on my head but easy to reach back and grab some gloves, clothes, phone, etc.

Looks very nice. I have a few questions.

Do the spreader bar tips go through a loop in the perimeter amsteel? It doesn't look like it in your close up shot.

If not, wont that put a lot of stress on the fabric in that area, even though it is reinforced? How much can a buttonhole really hold?

What is your reason for using binding tape along the edges, instead of just rolling the hammock material?

Thanks for posting pics and sharing.

Yes the spreader bars do go through the button hole only with double grosgrain or webbing material inside the binding. The spreader bars do press on the fabric and reinforcement but at this time I have seen no hint of tearing or fabric wear but time will tell. You certainly can do the loops. That grosgrain or webbing is really thick and I have a tough time cutting through it with my seam ripper and scissors. It is a really small button hole with wide stitching. I think that the blanket binding may show wear over time but I don't see the other tearing.

You absolutely can roll the hammock material in a hem on the sides. The blanket binding adds nice contrast and color and feel and is REALLY simple to sew on especially when it comes to trying to hem the curves. I've hemmed alot of hammocks and either way works. I just like the ease and contrast. Dislike the slight weight gain. Try it out and see what you think.
