Me-Sack Mark III (The Next Generation)

This is my first ***Black Bishop Bag***!!! Gosh I am excited. I made this for my under-quilt protector. The circle is 5" in diameter after being sewn. The drawstring channel was done with casings. I included a pocket, just like BB.

I sewed my grosgrain reinforcement inside the bag so that it is hidden by the fabric. Maybe that was a mistake. Thoughts?

    1.6 oz Hyper D.

Now, every time I go out hammock camping, I can have a little bit of Black Bishop there along with me.
    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

I said I wasn't going to post this publicly, but there are just too many interested people to send them to everyone individually.

    Enjoy.

Thank you for sharing this. A great idea and definitely added on my project list.

    That turned out exceptional!

Are you taking about a tarp? I am seriously thinking the BBBag may be better than skins. Thoughts?

My DIY camo mesh Bishop bag has worked fine for me, plus the DIY satisfaction. I have some of those girly pony tail bands that I clinch around the CF tarp at four or five spots to keep it manageable in windy conditions. I think it is more a matter of personal preference and opportunity costs. I like having the tarp in one compact bundle than a bunched coil stuffed in the pack. That way I can either put the BB in pack or outside the pack. Mark the head/foot end for convenience. I think a mesh version of the Me-sack would work fine too, however, the BB may be easier to remove and reuse for other configurations.

I am also not crazy about having a long coil in my pack.

I just made a round mesh bag to hold my bannetons for bread baking (they are proofing baskets). I was surprised how easy the mesh was to sew in a circle.

But I might make a nylon bottom with mesh sides.

Or maybe cover all the seams with bias tape.

So many things to think about...

I've actually been considering a mesh Me-Sack for my tarp, lately. There are several definite pluses to this over snakeskins. I'll probably make one soon for a trial run.

BB, well... I tried to take a picture of the inside of my bag for you, but on my bag I did the grosgrain stitching with black thread, so you can't see it very well. So I mocked up what I did a second time, but with contrasting thread.

This is essentially what the hole on my bag looks like from the inside.

    Grosgrain is 1/2" wide.

I did an overcast stitch along the edge of the grosgrain and my fabric to prevent too much fraying.

Straight stitch along the inner side of the grosgrain to hold it in place.

Sewed the circle with a straight stitch, backstitching in both sides of the opening.

Zig zags on both sides of the opening to simulate a bar tack.

All the structure is hidden within the seam allowance on the inside of the bag, making it seemingly work like magic.

Does this meet with your satisfaction?

I would be happy to demonstrate on my next BB bag on video if you would like.

"Meet with my satisfaction". Lol. I'm not the sewing machine master here.

The only thing I might change is the placement of the grosgrain. I put mine on the inside of the hole so that the cord is contacting the ribbon instead of the fabric. Silnylon doesn't do well with abrasion. I'm not sure what fabric you're using - it might not matter.

This is exactly why I was worried. I am in auto-mode by hiding things like that inside the seam allowance, and once I finished, I thought maybe it was not a good idea.

Next time I will put the grosgrain on the "right side" of the fabric.

It makes sense that one would want any abrasion against the ribbon, and not the fabric. That is why it is there.

You are so helpful with my trouble-shooting.

Rest assured that the hole is still within the seam allowance, well hidden. I know how you are about appearances. : )
