Thanks! I think it's my favorite piece of car/bike camping gear.

I agree and am very happy with the wider fabric. I went with the Xenon Sil Wide, so I'm at about 74". The extra width coverage makes a big difference for me especially with rain protection for the bike. Got a bit of rain last week and the bike stayed dry and still had room for two chairs. Good luck and would like to hear how it works out.

    I'd rather be hanging.

The stand has been excellent and a necessity in California, at least in San Diego County, since you can't hang from trees in any of the state or county campgrounds.

Thank you for mentioning that! California State Parks (as are National Parks) are like museums, one really can't interact with anything in the park, just visit, look & take pics, and leave no trace.

So, options include National Forest, BLM land, and possibly National Monuments. I don't see any restrictions posted re: LA County Parks (3 campgrounds).

I guess you have to do your homework on the location as it varies.

Yes, it does pay to check. The rules say no, but it is a blanket rule for nothing attached to trees. However, I've found enforcement varies in some CA state parks. Some of the rangers are cool about hammocks....others are by the book, so I bring the stand. No love in any of the county campgrounds where I've stayed. This is just for dedicated campgrounds not dispersed/remote camping.
