I have seen them as low as $60 at Sierra Trading post if you wait for the best coupon to be sent your way. YET BEWARE...most cheap stands are far too short for even a shorter gathered-end hammock. Many are designed for that loosely knit cotton/spreader bar backyard shady-day thing which can be as short as 7 feet. Make sure the stand you order will accept your "real" hammocks actual hanging length. Also of note...if you leave your stand outside year-round...it might be an ugly rusty mess by the time your bulbs sprout in the Spring. Rustoleum to the rescue! Good luck!

The top rail is in three 4'-3" pieces utilizing two connectors so overall it is almost 13' long. I made them that size so they would fit in a carry bag I had, you could make them as long as you like. The legs I made out of two pieces a little over 3' each utilizing the coupling end already on the fence top rail so I didn't need connectors for those only a wire lock pin to keep the legs together. Each leg end has an eye bolt through it and I used chain and a carabiner to keep the legs from spreading. I also put an eyebolt on the top rail at the ends to attach my tarp to. If you had the top rail already the connectors and L shaped thru connectors are really inexpensive. I'm not a very big guy- 5' 10" about 165# but it holds me with no problems.
I like how you are using pins ( proper name unknown to me) to fasten two shorter pipes into one longer pipe.

I think I will be running down to princess auto to get me some.

It's just one of the cheap commercial stands from ebay, amazon etc. Good value if you have a hammock that works with them. Quick to assemble and disassemble as well.

When you setup you have to pull the suspension as tight as you can on both sides so the arms can raise up slightly when weight is applied to the hammock.
    Hey snwcmpr.
This is shogun82's post (post #25) in this thread.
I know it's not the lightest gear, and it's a lot of stuff, but I use a canoe, so it's a lot like car camping, but without the other cars.

    Thanks.

With a WBBB XLC and whoopie slings15' is about minimum.
This would allow me to place it as easy as it is to move that sucker.

I am also thinking of (2) 8' (plus buried depth) 6" round posts in the ground.

I have an XLC as well that works with this stand.

Any recommendations for something workable and not too expensive? I don't need to travel with it, I just need 14' + from eye to eye.

    Thanks in advance.
I haven't measured so I'm not sure if it's long enough for you but I just made this today from an old trampoline frame that someone was tossing out. Didn't cost me a penny
