I agree, tapered seems to function a little easier than non-tapered.
I have both a single tapered and a double. Both are mesh. It really is personal preference, I find the single tapered to be easier for me to use.
I’ve used both in high winds and they both make stowing a tarp a lot easier.
I have experienced the “bubble” but learned the ways to prevent it.
I have a question for bobamos:
Not quite sure what you mean by a rain block?
Pop_Eye, I apologize for answering for bobamos if my idea is wrong but I’m guessing that “rain block” simply means it keeps the rain from running down the suspension line. Now that is usually not a problem if you hang the tarp under the ridge line. I use a continuous ridgeline so I don’t know about split line issues. With a single skin, it is scrunched up (a block) at only one end when the tarp is setup. With a double skin, both tarp ends have a scrunched up wad of nylon or mesh. They would keep rain from continuing to travel down the suspension line - at least that’s the idea.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
Thanks cougarmeat!
Ok, now I get the principle.
Kind of the same thing with tree straps with some kind of metal connector to the continuous loops or cotton shoelaces on the continuous loops.
For some reason it just didn’t click that a tarp might need the same kind of drip control as a hammock.
Pop_Eye - Yes, that’s it. the skin acts as a shoe lace. And you are right that usually, WHEN the tarp is hung under there suspension line, that is not a problem. But some people like to run the suspension line under the tarp - for example, if they are using it as a clothes line to dry things. If the line goes under the tarp, it can present a highway of access for the rain.

I have both a single tapered mesh and a double silnylon version (the one from Warbonnet I guess). I don't have strong feelings about single or double, but I definitely prefer the mesh. Does seem better with wet.
Bigger wider tarp like Superfly...single snakeskin.
Smaller tarp....snakeskins.
At least that is my preference.
