    Sooki 2.0 - a 25°F synthetic Wooki replica

    Fellow hangers,

following my synthetic Wooki replica, I gave it another shot and made a 25°F synthetic Wooki.

I used 0.75oz grey rip stop nylon and two layers of 3oz Climashield Apex.

First, I sewed a rolled hem on all edges of a 14.5 ft length of fabric (way to long, I know). This will be the inner shell of the UQ. Then I tapered a 6.6 ft piece of fabric to about 3.5 ft (foot end of insulation). Then I positioned the Apex on the inner shell and cut away the projecting triangles. I put another Layer of Apex on the first one and cut it like the first one, except that I made it 10'' shorter on the the head and foot end (to save some weight). Finally, I put the insulation on another piece of nylon (outer shell), cut it in shape, flipped over the edges and pinned the outer shell and the Apex layers. I sewed the package together with red yarn 1'' from the edge, placed it on the inner shell and sewed again 0.5'' from the edge. To finish the quilt I roughly positioned it under my hammock, gathered the ends and attached shock cord on the foot end.

I am very happy with the quilt. Everything went flawlessly, very easy to make, extremely comfortable and very cheap (45 Euros, about 50$). I already tried it last night at about 35°F, I was warm as can be throughout the whole night (together with a 20°F HG Burrow). The Sooki 2.0 should be fine to about 25°F (-4°C) and hence will be my new 3-season underquilt.

The whole quilt came out at 26 ounces (738 g) and packs about the size of my 20°F Burrow (I used the Burrow stuff sack for the photo). I can further cut of the unneeded fabric on the ends to save a little more weight.

Very Nice! Looks like quite a bit of work went into it.

I like it. I missed your previous Sooki posting, so glad to see both!

I guess one needs to be a very still sleeper (not moving around much)

No, actually you can move quite a lot. I made the insulated area appr. 20% broader compared to a original Wooki.

However, I hardly move at all when I sleep in a hammock. A common phenomenon reported by many hangers.
