Finger Lakes National Forest Winter Trip Feb 17th-18 2017

Hey Guys and Gals. I am relatively new to the forums, and I haven't met anyone yet so I thought I would send out an invite to see if anyone from Western, NY would like to join me for an over-niter in the Finger Lakes National Forest.

The trip will be Friday afternoon (Feb 17th) until Saturday afternoon (Feb 18th). We will be doing the whole interloken trail from north to south.

I look forward to possibly meeting some of you!

Dangit, I wish I could do this but it's the beginning of the holiday week for the public schools in Rochester and Buffalo; not the perfect weekend for getting away. Would you be willing to do this on another date?

I will post future trips for sure, but this one is set. The holiday is what makes it possible for me.

I would love too but I'm not ready for winter hanging yet. My inlaws live on Logan RD RT4 and their property is bordered on 3 sides by the F.L.N.F. I will check the distance but I think that's a bit far for a first day. I'm subbing to this to follow. This spring I'm in for sure.

Their place is south of this trail along the Finger lakes trail. Where are you planning to stop? The red roof is very nice, friendly folks.

Thanks for the heads up! We are planning to stop down on Burnt Hill Rd at the end (leaving a vehicle at the end and one at the beginning). It is a 12 mile trail, so we will likely do about 3-5 miles on Friday (2/17) and 7-9 miles on Saturday (2/18) and camp somewhere between Teeter Pond and Foster Pond. I have camped and hunted near foster pond a bunch in the past, so I know the area leaves a ton of great options for hanging.

Preacher - thanks for putting this together. I am in Rochester. What time Fri afternoon are you getting started?
I am interested if it is > 10F and the snowdepth is manageable: I have camped cold weather, back packed and snowshoed but never all at once.

The game plan is to meet at the trailhead at 1:30PM on Friday, getting hiking by 1:45ish.

This sounds amazing. I went to college in Ithaca but haven't been back to the area for years. I wish I lived closer!

If starting from the north you are thinking "Parking area off Parmenter Road"?

Yes, that's the plan, though I have never been to that parking area, so I am unsure how much space there is (plan was to figure it out when I got there)
