I wasn't planning to continue this once a month challenge, but I made it out last weekend. That makes 13 months in a row (of at least one night of camping a month!)
Last weekend was SUPER MUDDY!!!!

The thing I am realizing, especially with our newly diagnosed diabetic cat who needs insulin twice a day, is that it's great and perfectly acceptable to hang ANYWHERE you can! We have our backyard, which I know some of you don't have, and we also are blessed to live in the country and have a neat little wildlife preserve right down the road! There's a great mountain right off the road with beautiful views too. We are scoping out some good hang spots right off the new logging road that went in last year and right along the river hopefully. Probably a 15min hike in around the base of the mountain, set up camp, eat dinner, relax, go to bed. Get up in the morning, have a little breakfast maybe, head home. So simple overnighters can work which is so awesome!! I am trying to set up our backpacking gear so it is super accessible for this type of deal. That's the key. Normal backpacking and camping trips require a lot of prep typically. I want to be ready to just "bug out" last minute to "our spot" or even just out back. It's good practice too.

Sounds like a winner, MrsKD.
Patti and I are in. Will post photos, when we can.

I'm sorry about your cat!
But, I do really like your way of thinking! That is how my weekend trip is going to be this weekend. I have a horse on meds and can't do a full, two night trek so its going to be an out and back for me but, those are my favorite solo trips! So refreshing!
I like the quick getaway too. I'm still learning what I need and what can stay home. My girlfriend and I decided to do an overnight a little farther away from home this weekend to see how we do in mid 30 temps. Won't be roughing it too much...in a regular campground and the car will be near, but we don't have a backyard suitable for hanging a hammock.
Oh yeah 12 nights a month I'm in
Volcanoes and waterfalls, trees and hammocks,
Columbia River gorge, in Benson Burner's attic.

Set up my hang this afternoon. Got my headlamp and I'm trekking out shortly... hope I find it in the forest ok...those reflective guylines are a lifesaver!!!
I'll post some pics as soon as my lousy cell service decides to squeeze them through!

I wonder how it is we have come to this place in our society where art and nature are spoke in terms of what is optional, the pastime and concern of the elite?
