    Sewn in bug net question

Hey guys, I've made a couple of gathered end hammocks now and would like to add a bug net to the last one I made. I plan to sew the bug net on one side and install a zipper on the other. I want to be able to unzip the one side, roll the bug net up and tie it down on the the sewn side when not in use. Has anybody tried this or have any idea whether or not it will work? My concern would be that the bug net will not roll all the way down because my ridgeline is shorter than the outside length of my hammock not allowing enough slack in the netting to be rolled past the center point or ridgeline. Does this make sense or I am not thinking this through properly? Cheers everyone.

I think you are right, unless you sewed pleats into the end to give yourself some extra fabric to work with.
    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

I watched a youtube video yesterday with a hammock review. It sounds very similar to what you are talking about wanting to do with your bugnet. I'll leave the link here for reference. Good luck.

Been thinking about this myself. I think it would be fine if the zipper terminates at the opposite corner from the opening. That way it is sewn and rolls up to one of the straight lines of the parallelogram. Does that make sense?

You can sew zippers on both sides. Not a continuous zipper. The netting can then be gathered around the ridge lineup when both sides are unzipped

    Sorry this picture is sideways.

I've been thinking about sewing the zipper all the way around, and then putting some sort of bag in the end for the netting to stuff in to, while still being connected to the hammock.

That's the way I do it now. Stores in a small peak bag.

    Sewn in bug net question

I have a hammock with a side storage bag. I use it to store my fronkey DIY style removeable bug net, I use a Bishop style bag large enough to accommodate everything else from tree straps to my whoopie slings.

this bag holds the bug net and accessories
