Sewing while frustrated.
I was working on a down filled top quilt and had just spent about 2-3 hours wranging down in my bathroom. I was hot and tired (and looked a bit like a plucked goose) but I got all the down in the baffles and everything was clipped and ready to go. I started to sew the edges shut and I really should have just walked away from the sewing machine but I was so close to having it finished that i thought I'd just power through. Nope, that was a bad idea.
I was sewing the seam and got part way done and noticed that I was sewing extra material from the bottom and it was all going to have to be seam ripped and re-done. I just stopped in mid-seam and shut off my machine with the quilt still under the needle and walked away. It's been in the machine for the last 2 weeks. Partly because I've had a cold but partly because I'm not going to touch that quilt until I'm calm and centered and ready to face the additional work with a positive attitude.
I've had similar experiences while doing woodworking and I know better. If you aren't in-the-moment and feeling good about what you are doing, you are just inviting disaster. It's better to just walk away until you are really ready to proceed instead of forcing it.
