    Sparrow 2 layer & a pad

I'm in the process of figuring out what I want on the New Sparrow that I NEED.. I will be having Randy and crew make a 11ft, as wide as possible, 2 layer, for me; odds are with a good junk of all the other bells and whistles going with it..

Anyway for those of you that are running a sparrow do you think this pad would fit in it? As I would be running it until I get an UQ for it made up.. It's a Cabela's Alaskan Guide® Sleeping Pad that I have left over from before going to hammocks...

It looks like it would fit just fine.

I think you'd be quite disappointed with that pad in a gathered end hammock. I tried a thermarest neoair xlite large which is 25" x 77" in a dream hammock dangerbird. It was horrible. Even underinflated it was way too wide. The ridgeline was about 6" above my face. And the hammock was quite tippy and uncomfortable. I don't think 30" would work very well at all. I like pads but that one is just too big for that hammock. Look for an insulated Klymit Static V. It fits a hammock really well and because of it's baffle design, conforms quite well to the body side to side. Massdrop has them on right now for $64. Best pad for a hammock out there.

I used an exped syn 7 large/wide in my sparrow for the first several months. It worked, but wasn't ideal. Your pad will fit between the layers. I think the openings are 36 inches or something like that. The problem I had was side coverage in cold weather. the instant any part of your body leaves the edge of the pad and gets near the hammock fabric, you'll have a cold spot. It was comfy enough and I slept well. (still better than a tent on the ground) but nothing beats an UQ.

I'm aware nothing beats an UQ, it just comes down to $$$

totally understand. that's the reason I used a pad for so long. It wasn't terrible. I did sleep pretty well. It wasn't until I hit temps in the 40's or so that the cold spots really became a problem. Eno sells a thing that goes with a pad that has wings. It's something the legendary Shug has used before he got quilts. The Hot Spot. https://www.eaglesnestoutfittersinc....uct/A4011.html
The pad you have might be too wide, but it's an idea. You could fashion something similar to fit your pad with an inexpensive closed cell foam pad. All you need is a little extra on the sides to keep the cold from your sides.

Check out this video. It's all about using a pad in a hammock.....

Here's the Gossamer gear pad he talks about. I'm thinking of getting one to cut into a variety of pads for sitting and sleeping and such. It's 39 inches wide. You could put your inflatable between the double layers and put the gossamer pad on top or something like that. $43 and you're set.
