    Singer sewing machine help please

    IMG_20170121_213038949_HDR.jpg

My '64 singer featherweight keeps bunching up my Gutterman thread. Not sure why it's acting up. Was fine yesterday. Thoughts?

Just asked my wife. She suggests checking the tension on your bobbin, machine tension, or how it is threaded. Featherweights are great machines.

Unthread and rethread the machine, top and bottom. 9/10 times for me it's because something in the upper threading got wonky.

Make sure that your presser foot is up when you rethread. If it is down, the tension discs won't catch the thread.

I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

This video covers all the tension basics. If this fellow can't help you solve your problem, then you need to see a repair shop.

I rethreaded the top and that helped. Only one jam after. I noticed the bobbin is getting low. Perhaps I should put on a new one.

I haven't sewn since 7th grade! Never imagined I'd need that skill again!

Thank you all for your assistance!

Btw, here's the end product. A handful of stuff sacks.

nice job on the stuff sacks. After checking tension/ threading also check/ change needle. One of or a combination of the three usually solves most problems. I always start a large project with a new needle and a full bobbin.

I had the same thing happen yesterday, it was the first time it has ever happened. I'm not sure if it was a bad lot of thread or what but I changed out the spool and it didn't happen again.
