    Small miscellaneous tarp

I can't remember who had it, or which thread it was, but someone used a small tarp in addition to their primary tarp for sitting by a fire away from the hammock. I'm looking for something small and light to take on rainy trips. It would be nice to relax by the fire and keep out of the rain. I don't want to spend much, but don't want to get a cheap (full size, heavy) tarp on amazon/ebay either even though the price is right (~$29).

I guess I could get a super cheap 4x6 poly tarp for $2.99, but something a little more refined would be idea.

    Ideas?

Could it have been WL's Add-A-Porch?

I've got a couple things I use when the mood hits me: a piece of tyvek, the 5 by 7 Outdoor Products blue nylon tarp from wally world ($6), or the Alps nylon tent footprint I scored for $4 bucks from the REI clearance. I recently had a silnylon poncho made for me by Jared at SLD that I could use, but I'd be leery of using it that close to the fire.

+1 on the OP tarp from WW.
It's a beater. Ground cloth/ tent liner/ tarp/ ... at that price you can burn thru one every year.
Plus you can make a poncho out of one and some scrap in about 10 minutes on the thread injector.

The Outdoor Products tarp looks good at 6x8. But 11oz is heavy for what it is. I know I can't be picky at that price, but I'm thinking a small silnylon tarp would make more sense. Found one on ebay for $15 and weights 8oz, more importantly it should pack smaller. Not sure yet.

    Thanks for the ideas!

If you want something a little more durable, check ot the 5x7 MEST from www.bushcraftoutfitters.com
The multicam has additional fire retardants.

That's real close, if not the one! I'll feel kind of stupid having two decent tarps in camp for one person, but we'll see.

Don't feel stupid, I always have my MEST and Poncho from them ,along with my primary tarp every outing I go on.
I'll sacrifice the weight penalty for the durability with these two items every time.
