Just park at Badger Pass and get your free permits. Glacier Point Road is groomed and is great for getting to Taft Point for day trips--you can also go to Dewey Point as well.
For Overnight trips, I'd go to Dewey Point for first night, and take the Pohono trail to Taft (really crazy powder stuff) and get on Glacier Road so you can connect to Sentinel Dome. From there, one can go back on Glacier road all the way back to Bager Pass (10+ miles of boring road), or go down to the Valley from Glacier Point, this is about 5/6 miles and all downhill . Hitch hike your way back to the car.
Cool. I'm flying out there 2/17-2/19 for the firefall too. Thanks for the hiking tips.

Wow, I'm super jealous. I haven't gotten to go to Yosemite yet. Possibly someday in the future I will be going out there for rock climbing. Until then I can live vicariously through your pictures.

Recommendations on trails from Badger pass? Did you hike to Ostrander lake?
Come second week of February and you'll get to see the Firewall. I am going in a few hours to check out the snow dump, 5ft of powder on top of what was there. Road are a nightmare right now but the falls are gushing.

Yosemite is packed in the summer and full of redtapes, but offers solitude and headache-free paperwork in the winter. Just show up at Badger Ski pass and ask for an overnight permit, free of charge of course, and you're free to explore for as many nights as you want.
I spent two nights there in ideal conditions; sunny during the day and clear skies at night. It did dip into the single digits but not too bad. I brought a tarp but did not deploy it so I can stare at the stars at night.

I will go on Feb 2-5.

It takes about 6+ hours to drive up there from Southern California. I'll look to spend the first night in the valley maybe in the backpackers campground or Camp 4 if not too croweded. Then either driver shuttle it to badger ski area. First day do you recommended do you point second day make it over to glacier point and perhaps your final recommendation of cutting back down to the valley if it's not too treacherous and icy.

    And no advance permits needed?

Thank-you for sharing your trip report, like the others stated stunning views to have from a campsite.
I also really like the second picture.

I'd recommend spending first night a Dewey Point since it's close. You get to see El Capitan, and Half Dome. You can spend the next day going to Sentinel Dome and camp there. Follow the road back on your las day.
Just show up and get your permit at the ranger hut by Badger, they can't say no because there's no quota. Parking is free! The park charges you just for the entrance fee. Private message me and I can give you specific details. I'll be there in Feb too for the Firefall event.
