    DIY underquilt protector

Made an underquilt protector using Ripstop By the Roll 0.9 oz Membrane 15 Poly Taffeta. Finished length was 11'4" for use with my 11'10" hammock. The side channel Knotty mod was made by sewing a folded 6" strip of 1/2" grosgrain into the side channel seam on each end of the Knotty mod. I tested my finished underquilt protector for about 2 hours at 21 degrees with winds up to 12 mph. Never felt any hint of a breeze under my hammock. Really like the Membrane 15 Poly Taffeta, very light weight. I'm glad I made it longer than the standard 9' underquilt protector. Feels like I have really good wind protection.

Design with dimensions and material list.

Good job! Thanks for posting this. I've been considering a DIY UQP for awhile and your efforts have inspired me. I was wondering if tapering the ends would save some weight as opposed to rectangular....do you have anything that you would do differently if doing it again?

Next time I might make the Knotty mod about 6" longer on each side to tighten the upper edges

How long is your Knotty Mod section on each side? I made mine 36" long for a 105" finished length.

Knotty mod is 36" on each side. Next time I'll try 42".

Wow, another item to add to my DIY list... I gotta figure out a way to retire so I have enough time for all of this...

    Really really nice.
    Thanks for sharing it!
    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

Winnie, thank you for sharing this with us. This is exactly what I've been looking for! I ordered the same fabric as you used for the UQP, but have held off for several months now because I wanted a little more detail. Yours turned out fantastic!

    Many thanks!
