How long should I make my underquilt protector?

I want to whip out a quickie underquilt protector before heading to the mountains for the weekend (expecting some rain) and it occurred to me that I'm not sure how long to make it. Is there a general rule of thumb for this? Should it be 90% of the length of my hammock? 80%? 83.3%? (haha) Help a gal out here. Thanks!

I think 2QZQ makes theirs 106" and that is the length I used for mine, along with a knotty mod in the middle of each long side and 1/8" shock cord for suspension. It covers the UQ nicely!

Are you putting that on an 11' hammock? 12'?

    Thanks for the help!

106" UQP on an 11' hammock would be 80%!!!!
    Eek! I love it.
Is this a rule of thumb?

somewhere between 11' - 11.5' since me seam allowances and suspension channels may not have been measured exactly.

I would make it the same length of the hammock. If the idea is to limit moisture, stop it from rolling down the hammock and onto the quilts. Cover end to end.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

100%. That is a nice, round number.

Make it a little bit longer than your longest UQ. Figure the finished size you need to add for the seams and rigging. I made a UQP that was as long as my GE hammock, I would not do that again. My bridge UQP is the size of my RR, but that is different than a GE.

Made my underquilt protector 136" on a 142" hammock. 96%. I like the coverage.

I make mine just a bit longer than my full-length underquilt (about 78 inches). It really only needs to cover the underquilt/leg area to cut the wind and moisture. Mine has knotty mods starting in the center and continuing for about 24 inches each way. Ends have a channel for shock cord suspension and just back of that is a piece of shock cord that attached across the ridgeline of the hammock. This is adjustable and keeps the protector cinched up at the ends to keep out breezes. When putting it on the hammock, it looks VERY loose, but when you get in the hammock it tightens up. You don't want it so tight that it compresses the underquilt from underneath.
