Thanks for all of your help, everyone! I ended up ordering the Whoopie Sling Adjustable Ridgeline from Dutchware Gear. Also grabbed a pair of Tarp Flyz - can't WAIT to try those out so I don't have to watch a YouTube tutorial on how to tie a slipped buntline hitch and a slipped truckers hitch EVERY TIME I put my tarp up! Lol...but seriously. Why didn't they teach us how to tie knots in Girl Scouts?

PS I was also SO SAD about Green Bean

Girls Scouts sucked. The Boy Scouts got to do all the fun stuff like knots, fire making, lashing branches to make shelters.... I've spent my entire adulthood trying to make up for the deficit

    <<girl scouts sucked>>
agree a million times over. I grew up in an age where we learned how to talk politely on the phone, and my brother got to go to all the camping trips in the nearby National Park. I hated that, and ditched scouting before too long. Hopefully they are a little better than they were when I grew up.

Yes very much off topic but...

It still sucks. I have 2 grandaughters in Girl Scouts and of course my daughter is also involved in various admin type roles (on the local level). It seems like they only want them to do "fun" stuff, not useful stuff. That organization seems to have a heirarchy so convoluted and tangled it's a wonder the kids get to do anything. But they sure do seem to rake in the bucks. I thinks it's just a business in such a disguise that allows it to get away with free child labor.

I was a Girl Scout in the 1960s and I wouldn't be the hiker and backpacker I am today without scouting. Such a shame they've gotten away from the outdoor life.

Girls scouts to my daughter is doing crafts in a church basement. Absolutely nothing to do with camping or even go outside. Just glue, glitter and pop sickle sticks!

I lasted about 2 weeks in girl scouts. I went on a "camping trip" where we stayed in cabins and thought I had had enough of that. I was a lucky kid who got to go backcountry camping with my family. Girl scouts was not an adventure.

My Girl Scouts experience was pretty disappointing too... we had a yearly trip to COSI, but other than that it was crafts in a basement, learning how to put a diaper on a baby, and oh yes -- selling cookies.

Have heard from some folks recently that their daughters do cool things, though, including camping. It seems to vary a lot by troop.

{ETA} To keep this thread on topic: you could look up some basic rope splicing techniques and learn along with your goddaughter how to make your own ridgeline, GingeGirl! (Though you already ordered one...)
