Can't hang in the woods so bring the trees to the house. Like the logic and the execution. Ceiling fans are a problem.

oooh, I want to do this...

(...thinking about the branches we cut off that tree last fall, hmmm, how big were they.....?)

There's a library in town that took the trunks of trees cut down to make way for the building and used them in the interior of the building as posts. HEY! Maybe I should take a hammock over there and try it out!

Actually, because there is no ridgepole needed, you can hang right under a ceiling fan. I'm not sure if you can see it in the pic, but there's a fan there. The brackets and rope hold the trunks as solid as if they grew there!

Do you have a picture of the brackets themselves? I can't tell how the rope is tied to them; there seem to be some hooks or tie points. Would love to see them!

Great idea! Blends perfectly with the trompe-l'œil ceiling! Just add a sound machine with thunderstorm sounds.

Originally I was going to make them out of wood, probably oak or maple, with some eye bolts, (I still have a sketch, I think) but then I decided that the aluminum would be a more simple design. The metal is 1/4" thick and each plate is sized and drilled to match the studs in the chosen location. They are attached with #10 x 3.5" construction screws. I lashed the trunks to the brackets with 3/8" cheap sisal rope from HD.

Thanks! Hahaha The curse of an artist; no room left to hang paintings on the wall, so...paint the wall!
