I was laughing to myself when these southerners are chiming in with their winter weight. When someone says "winter load out", I think more of 8* as a low, pulk, snowshoes and melting snow.

Yessir. Their Winter load is my Fall load.
But....they must stand some serious heat and humidity in Summer so they earn their Stars there.

Sorta depends on the temp rating and fill.....UQ, full length or partial.
You can see the size of my Hammock Gear 20º TQ in the vidoe below at 6:40 in.
My 20º Full length UQ is a bit larger.
My 20º Frankenquilt 20º partial UQ is a bit smaller than the 20º HG TQ packed.

29.4.1 packliner and tarp stuffed into pack, plenty of room.jpg this is a 20* full size set , hammock and tarp in a ULA Circuit, it comes up to the top of the pocket, the rest depends on temps, duration, so food and clothing will vary. But I would say around the 30lb mark pack out wt.

Yep our summers highs are usually anywhere from 90-100° with 100% humidity and lows in the 70s sometimes in the &0s from about may to late September early October. I'm in northern Alabama and I love summer time, not a fan of cold weather (I couldn't live up north, I don't even like hearing negative weather more less having to live in it)

I do most of my hiking during the summer, I always say we have to seasons in Alabama......summer and winter (to us) haha. It seems like we have about 2 weeks before and after summer where the temps are in the &0s for fall and spring (probably more like a month)

My 50* TQ will pack down to the size of a large grapefruit and my 50* UQ to the size of maybe a canteloupe (dad gum ribbon and strings!) if I were to subscribe to the compression sack idea. My 20* TQ in its included stuff sack is roughly the size of a squared off football (length and equatorial diameter), maybe a little bigger, but could be smashed down to probably 2/3 of that size. Skip the compression sacks and go to a pack liner. Quilts will absolutely fill the interior of your pack, but will yield to the remainder of your gear without much complaint... provided you don't try to cram 23 days worth of food, a chair, a bear can, 5 sets of clothes, full rain suit, 3 or 4 books and the kitchen sink in there. My summer pack is 48l and I have room to spare. My winter pack is 75l and I have a LOT of room to spare.

Same here. That's what I like about living somewhere where you get 4 distinct seasons. They all mean something very different and specific.

I'm currently using a 80 liter pack, which is more then I need even in winter. My base weight with a 20 degree quilt set comes in at just under 20 pounds.
