Like others have said, the straps/buckles are solid. However I have experienced some slippage as well. We're talking an inch or two over the course of a few hours. I now tie a slippery half hitch once setup. Seems to do the trick. Or it's peace of mind at least

Please forgive me if this is too off topic..

    A) I would like to know what if any heresy would be committed by just removing the buckles entirely and using a becket hitch with the supplied straps thru the loop the buckles formerly passed thru?

    B) I tried it out and just let the buckles dangle out of the way, seemed fine held me up and no slippage, BUT when if/when I go to remove the loop the buckles are attached to, seems the loop is threaded thru them, can that loop be undone?

I have 5 BB's and have never had a problem with the default buckles. I have switched them out with Dutch's Ti Cinch buckle as it is easier to use.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !

Check out Brandon's video labeled "Swapping out suspension on the Blackbird" to accomplish this.

The other day I figured out an easier way to "release" the buckles if they are hard to separate due to a tight hang or if you just find seperating them hard to do in general... Pull on the end of the hammock (so that you put a tiny bit of slack into the suspension strap you're trying to loosen) now pull on the tip of one of the triangle buckles (just one of them, specifically the one that sticks out a little farther), It should easily release. You're basically pulling the end of the hammock towards the tree, and the tip of the buckle towards the hammock if that makes more sense.

As for the buckles rotating sideways, that can happen when you pull the hammock out of the stuffsac, just make sure they are straight before you sit down the first time after setting it up.
