The way AutumnUL does it seems like the best way if you plan to stick to the Becket hitch. That’s my plan now that you mentioned it.

I just made another set of CL's using Jeff Myers Diamond knot technique. I don't see myself using anything other than the Becket and maybe a whoopie from time to time, so this is going to be my go-to. I made eight inch CL's with two inch thumb loops. I am going to make them again but make a six inch CL with a two inch thumb loop.

If anyone want the ones I just made, you can have them... PM me..

Anne Marie AutumnUltralight, does such smooth and accurate splicing. Really neat work, I’m impressed.
I’ve never seen this splicing maneuver before. I wonder if Anne Marie invented this technique.
And I wondered if this can be made from a single piece of amsteel with a different technique??
One way is to form small pull loop and make a diamond knot, then continue up to far end. Make a locked brummell and bury loose ends.
Or another technique, form small pull loop and make a locked brummell to hold pull loop in place.
Go to far end, locked brummell and splice bury loose ends.
This second Phantom guess might not hold at locked brummell that’s all by itself and having to be in becket hitch. Might be too much stress on locked brummell with no backup.
Third Phantom guess. Use a regular continuous loop and tie an overhand knot to form pull loop.
Continuous loop might have to be a bit larger to account for pull loop and overhand knot.
I got so many guesses there’s bound to be many Phantom fails
Without trying new ideas there would be nothing new, ever.

Over the past two days I've used Phantom Guess One and Two above..

I did just the locked brummel to create the thumb loop. Hung directly from the locked point. It held, but quickly moved to the diamond knot.

The diamond knot option seems to work best, plus I like having the knot as the basis for other suspension options. When I hung on these I did so on the thumb loop first and that set the diamond knot well and true. Then I hooked a whoopie hook under the diamond on both strands and set it from the other side. I dare to say it isn't going anywhere.

I like the idea of using both the locked brummel and the diamond knot... I'll try that today.

This is what I have set up for my next trip.Plus,I will lark an Evo Loop onto my CL or attach it with a Dutch Biner.Then tie a little micro cord around that big honkin' knot on the Evo Loop which becomes the working CL and the BH gets tight just below that knot and I would expect it to not slip etc.Then use the micro cord to pull toward the tree whilst pulling the strap back toward hammock to untie.

Mr Meyers has a vid on YT about Evo Loops and you can order them off Ebay if you're like me and don't trust your own incompetence for first attempts at things that need to be Right the first time.

I find using a Cow Hitch is easiest for me. I can do it one handed while holding titanium toggle (which is tied to my hammock in my other hand.) Very useful if you need to make an adjustment to your suspension and want to keep your quilt out of the mud. I've not had any problems with it.
