Winter Gear Test Vented Bridge Half Sock-DIY Synthetic Quilts

Well I needed a good test for my gear that I've been working on, many thanks to all the knowledge on this forum and everyone's awesome DIY plans.

18F last night and I was toasty warm, and I'm sure I can get down even lower temps no problem.
Hammock is a Grizz Ariel inspired bridge hammock made from 2.4oz Hexon, no shoulder squeeze with 36"Top And 32" Bottom spreader bars.

Bottom Quilt is two layers of insultex on the bottom with two 3.6oz layers on top with a 1.1 nylon shell, and drawstrings.

Top quilt is 60"Wide with a taper to the foot, (EDIT one layer 3.6oz climashield) polyester blanket lined so it's comfy against my skin with an outside nylon shell.
Also using a synthetic 0F bag for now until I make a down topquilt for colder weather.

I went nuts making a massive sock for my bridge hammock out of silnylon. It's vented at the head and foot ends with an overhang for weather protection and little door flaps I can raise if it's nasty out. You enter the sock by raising it up from underneath the hammock then climb in, once your inside there's two drawstrings one on the very bottom and one on the sides right under the spreader bars. There where zero issues with condensation and ice as well.

I still need to put some finishing touches on everything, The endcaps are unfinished because I'm going to make them double walled to allow for insulation or storing my pack.

Images uploaded to Hammock forums now if that doesnt work I dont know whats up

Hammock Sock bottom, foot end. I'm going to redo the seam with a slightly heavier waterproof fabric on the bottom. The internal drawstring is made of 2.4oz hexon that I had laying around
And I still need to reinforce the vent openings and waterproof all the seams

Congrats on your gear. I'm amazed that with no loft on that top quilt that you stayed warm at that temp. That sock must have really done a good job. Did you run into any condensation issues?

I had the vent doors on either side open and there wasn't any condensation issues since my sock is higher on the head end everything just vents out.

Whoops I left out that there's 3.6oz climashield in the top quilt.

The idea behind my sock was that I hate tarps, I hate stringing them up, it's annoying having to adjust them, and I wanted everything to be without a continuous ridgeline since it's easier to hang in odd spots that way. Then I can just slap my hammock up and everything's good to go.

Sounds like a successful test. I don't see the pictures either, though.

Always good to know your kit works like it's supposed to!

It totally was to be honest, I was a little doubtful but once I hopped into my hammock I was amazed at how warmly I slept. And then to find out it was 18F. I'm looking forward to modifying the sock this afternoon and having another test tonight.

Has anyone ever made an underquilt that can snap onto a bridge hammock?
My underquilt is made to the exact size of my hammock and I was thinking I could just use snaps to keep it on instead of suspending it from the triangles.

Good to know, I now modified it so the sock is actually taut on top now, and hugs everything a bit better..
I just need some snow and rain to test how waterproof it is.
