Asymmetric Tarp vs Rectangle hung diagonally

I'm interested in making a super lightweight asymmetric tarp (probably using the Cowboy DART guide https://dutchwaregear.com/2018/07/26...boy-dart-tarp/ and from these forums https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...0-GRAMS!/page3 )

But I'm struggling to see the benefit of trimming the rectangle down vs just hanging a rectangle tarp on the diagonal... Most of the google searching I have done says that asymmetric tarps get a longer ridgeline, but that only matters if you hang a rectangle tarp normally vs diagonally.

Is there something that I'm missing? Also, I've thought about trimming one end similar to the DART, but leaving the other end Square. Would this give me a small bit more coverage around the head end?

Just looking for thoughts about ultralight tarps.

    Thanks in advance.

Way back in the day the Hennessy stock tarps that came with the hammock were a single diamond-shaped panel (no catenary cut ridge line). In my experience from working and playing and rainy conditions, the problem with these tarps was that when you applied tension between the trees the top of the tarp would form wrinkles, and under heavy downpours those wrinkles would collect a few gallons of water. The cat-cut eliminates the excess material so that when under tension the whole tarp pitches nice and taut.

Believe the theory is longer ridge line means more of the suspension line is out of the rain but as was stated above the more tension caused wrinkles those tarps are great if set up properly during a mist or spitting rain but in my opinion very little coverage for the nasty sideways stuff if your doing a rectangle anyways give your self more tie out loops to pitch that in multi ways the loops won't cost much more
