Very nice. I used to have a few of those guns but after they wouldn't work consistently and pissed me off they ended up in the trash.
I use a cheap pencil type iron now, and as you stated I do worry about the constant on heat. I ended up hanging it out of the way so I didn't need to worry about it touching anything it shouldn't.
Great video, if I ever come across a gun type that actually works I will keep this in mind.

I use a woodburning tool and cut on a piece of window glass or an old door mirror. For a straight edge I like a wooden ruler with a thin metal edge- it doesn't suck the heat out as fast.

Squidmark, Funny enough I own that tip and was going to show it in the video... The thicker sides of the rope cutting tip catch on the fabric and make your cut too wide. The rope cutting tip does work well for ropes just not so good on fabric.

Well done. I have one of those laying around somewhere. Guess I need to dig it out now.
I would rather be in the woods... my dog would rather be in the pool. My wife thinks we are both nuts.

My el cheapo soldering pen (Radio Shack) actually came with an X-Acto style cutting tip, like this... you can probably get one separate.

But modding what you got is always appreciated!

Took the tip of my Weller gun to the grinder, put a pencil point end on it and it heats/cools fast. Put a wood board on the ironing board and a steel straight edge to cut against. Works great. Sometimes its a bit hot and melts 1/16" more than I need, but I have not found that little bit to screw up my projects. Heck my seams are more crooked than that.

I have to admit I have not used it on a lot of fabric, but when I have it worked perfectly. I may have used it on the last couple of hammocks, but it's been a while. I found it important to move along at a fairly quick but steady pace.

Every one of these weller type guns I've ever used has had funky triggers that never work correctly. Even the knock offs are the same. Did they really need to copy the crappy triggers?!
