    Turtledog-type stand...

Hey all, long time no see!

Earlier my husband and I were talking about the turtledog stands (we have a stand I made years ago that seriously just takes up so much room and it'd be nice to be able to take everything down whenever... but just haven't had the time or space to make a turtledog one), and hubby was like 'I wish we could just buy one!', so I went searching... and found this:

    http://www.tatogear.com/product/the-...stand-camping/

Which is great! Looks like a member here made them even? Way more than wanting to spend... but even worse: out of stock, and it looked like from their kickstarter page they didn't even start getting stuff out to their backers til a couple months ago, so likely no time soon on getting them anyway. He also has kits, which are also out of stock.

    But! Earlier I found this:

    https://www.amazon.com/Hammaka-Tripo...dp/B0009ORGIG/

Which looks very similar the tripods used to set up the above, with a pole attached where the hammock chair would attach.

Seems like I could get two of these, use the pole I got a long time back that already has been drilled and everything, and just hook it in and use, just like that. Does this seem like a.... safe? bet that it'd work similarly? Has anyone tried something like that?

Yeah I know $200 is a bit much when the parts for a full DIY are less than $100, but... yeah. I'm never gunna get around to doing a full build. Been saying it for 4 years already XD

Or you could take it to an entirely different level.

I saw plenty of those type of solution, and while they'd be perfect for camping, I don't have any attachment points in the room for anything like that. Looking for something I can use at home, then easily break it down and take camping.

Dutch carries those stands. It appears that he has then in stock.

Several threads about the tatogear stand -- read them before you buy!

Yep -- been reading about them since posting this topic. Haven't seen anything too bad so far... is there something I should be finding?

One thing I did see: the one Dutch has in stock (also the one I linked to) uses a 13' pole which I hadn't noticed before. I actually can only go as long as just under 12' (the pole I already have is the longest I can go in the room it will be used in). So it's looking like I either need the kit, or use those stands from amazon? Still curious if that looks like a reasonable hack. I mean, I could also probably get the one in stock and switch out the pole, but then I'm spending $125 more than either kit or hack to get something I'd still need to modify.

    Thanks!

*edit* should note someone asked a kind of similar question on the amazon page itself, but that person seemed to just be hanging the hammock directly to the two stands, rather than having the pole to hang from and prevent the inward tipping.

I got rid of my Turtle Dog and made the Bipod stand outlined here in the DIY section. It was silly easy to make and can be configured to meet your needs. Plus it only cost $60 - $75. Search bipod stand and read the enire thread...

    This one?

That looks really promising, thanks! Though, the... flex... I see in some of the builds worries me a bit. Can you do the same you can with a turtledog and add a 3rd bipod for additional hammocks (for camping use)?

I've built three different styled hammock stands and I like the Spurtle Stand the best: relatively cheap, lightweight, and portable. Has a smaller footprint than my other two stands. Highly recommend getting the Husky pipe cutter mentioned in the thread.
    Find your inner hammock.
