Thread: YOBO Stand

I know what Kickstarter is. I work as an IT and security specialist. Most of the ideas that cross that site are copies of existing products or failed ideas that never get delivered or delivered poorly. The Boreal 21 is a good example of a copied concept executed in a low cost way to maximize profits. I hate kickstarter and gofundme based on these ideals. Not to even mention all the take money and run scams that have come and gone with no recourse for the campaign creator.

    Project has now gone live.
Looks like the stake specs have been updated to 29cm or 12".
Seems like the right direction, though I might look to supplement or replace with a stronger option for peace of mind.

I do note that on this stand the height from hammock attachment to the ground is 130cm or ~51". An 18" above grade hang at 30 degrees would put the stands only 9.5' apart which is only 6" longer than most 11' SRL's. Pretty tight, and certainly wouldn't fit any of my tarps at that point.

I'd need to lower my sit height to 9" to be able to squeeze in my 11' or 12' tarps which I suppose is doable if I were in a hammock-stand scenario, but it's not that fun for ingress/egress and puts UQ's really close to the ground. I'd prefer something closer to a 150cm / 59" hang height. That's with the legs securely in the ground as Shug notes.

Edit: They also specify 300# max load, but don't really talk about what kind of load that is, i.e. on what axis, which would be highly dependent on the angle that you hang at.
I agree. It's a great concept, but it has several drawbacks. The chief for me is the $300 price tag for a set at 7 lbs. That pretty much takes it out of the realm of most backpackers. I could see it for car camping, but for not much more, one could a Tato stand from Dutch and not worry about stakes and anchors at all.

I like the concept and it's a great first step to a backpacking way to hang without trees or rock faces or.... but I don't think it's quite there.

Thanks for the height breakdown! This is exciting because it seems like a step in the right direction to one day have a lightweight affordable backpacking stand for sale on the market. Every invention has its ups and downs, I think Kickstarter gets people thinking in the right direction.

I like the concept but my NoGround car cap is taller - similar weight - similar bulk (neither are for backpacking) - and you don't have to fiddle with that tarp pole for use of the tarp

    And lower cost.

But if the bipod design was taller that would be interesting

I'm VERY scared about the idea of a single anchor - even a 12 inch one on each side - but glad they will use a 12!!

Its an ok concept but really for car camping.

I will never back anything on kickstarter, the number of scams outnumber the actual honest people.

The most common issues are, take the money and not deliver anything, change the spec half way though usually heavier weight. Delay delivery for months even years in some cases. And worst case there was never a product in the first place.

One anchor point is risky, but i guess you could add another one.
The price does seem pretty high. Not sure this really offers anything more over the noground, or the handy hammock now made by DD

After puddling with my 60 inch high pole stand today - I feel more confident that for a car camping kayak camping sort of thing - this stand is too short.

To get a good hang your but would almost be in the ground and for what reason? To save a pound? Not worth it?

I still want to see a 250 lb person sit in this thing and move around....

Interesting theory! I have been lying in wait since my join date back in 2014 for this specific date in time to post specifically about the YOBO hammock which was probably only a glimmer in someones eye back in 2014 Honestly I wouldn't have posted had I known it was already a thread, cynics, sheesh!
