Adjusting HG Phoenix best practices... newb questions

    Hi all,

Long time lurker here. Finally pulled the trigger on an UQ and settled on a Hammock Gear Phoenix 20. I have taken it on several backyard test runs and so far, I've had CBS every single night and had to bail on a couple of occasions.

I tighten the secondary suspension enough to raise the hammock up when it's empty. So, I'm wondering if I'm over or under tightening the end cinches where the draft collars are at. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures to show my work, but I'm wondering if someone has a good setup video or forum thread they could point me to.

Another question, where do you guys lay in relation to the UQ? As of now the top of my UQ comes up just over my shoulder at the base of my neck.

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. And merry Christmas to everyone!

What were the temps when you had to bail?

Were you cold in parts of you that were covered by the Phoenix or at your lower legs and feet?

Positioning sounds fine. Don't overtighten draft collars. Position the foot end shock cord over your feet.

Yep, we need to know the temps you got CBS and if you are a cold sleeper. Personally my 20° quilt will start doing that at about 30° but I'm a really cold sleeper and use the 10/15 degree rule. I do not attempt to take any quilt 15 degree's below it's rating and I'm always warm with this rule.

Thanks guys! Yeah definitely a colder sleeper. The cold spots were down by my butt and lower back. Temps were at the low to mid 40s so I'm thinking the UQ should be good there. Maybe I need to fiddle with the draft collars a bit more

    Hope there is some insight.
Primary suspension lifts it up....secondary pulls it lengthwise.

Make sure to fluff the UQ and make sure the down is not all on one end or another. Very important to a UQ.
