    Amsteel color wear

I've now used grey, green, and blue amsteel. The green and blue lose their color due to friction, and I've noticed it on other cordage as well. Is there a general rule of thumb for which colors bleed and which don't? I've not used any of the colors for extended periods of usage to tell how much they'll really bleed but when I look down at my hands after working with them I do worry a bit that I'll end up with different colors after a short period of time in use.

They all loose color over time. The grey is probably the least, followed by yellow. The red the fades the worst. It has to do with the fiber type and that it does not absorb the color dye very well into the fibers, it just is on the surface.

So so. It is not as bad as the red but it will be more grey after a bit.

Grey seems like a pretty good color then. Thanks for the help.

I like the way the red, orange and blue fade. They're my favorites. The green (which is more aqua than green) looks the worst when it fades.

I presume the fading occurs across the various rope types and brands?

I have some orange 2.2mm line that fades very quickly to a creamsicle type color.

My yellow Zing-it is nearly white in some places after a few years. Well not white, but a very weak yellow.

I've been using the Beckett hitch on my orange CLs, and the color has faded some. Glad to see it is intrinsic of the dye rather than malpractice of the knot. I'm good with knots, with scouts most of my life and we use knots daily in my line of work.
